ARDF Supporting Recovery and Relief Efforts in Southeast Asia

Bishop Robert Duncan, Moderator of the Anglican Communion Network (ACN), announced today that the Anglican Relief and Development Fund (ARDF) is working with the Anglican Province of South East Asia, the Anglican Church of South India and the Anglican Church of Ceylon to provide immediate assistance in the region in the wake of the earthquake and tsunamis on December 26. To support recovery and relief efforts, Bishop Duncan is urging all congregations in ACN dioceses as well as those affiliated through ACN Convocations to call for a special offering on Sunday, January 2, 2005.

“Our brothers and sisters is Southeast Asia have suffered a calamity, and it is incumbent upon all Christians to reach out to them in this time of great need,” said Bishop Duncan. “The stories of devastation are heartrending, and I urge you to give generously.”

Contribution checks should be made payable to the Network of Anglican Communion Dioceses and Parishes and sent to ARDF, 910 Oliver Building, 535 Smithfield St. Pittsburgh, PA 15222, with a memo line notation: ARDF — Asian Crisis. The Network is a 501c3 tax-exempt organization.

According to Dr. Kerk Burbank, director of ARDF, the organization will assess local efforts to provide immediate relief and route assistance as quickly as possible where it can be most effective. He noted that the goal is to provide funds at the grassroots level, bypassing intermediate layers of management.

The Anglican Relief and Development Fund was launched in September 2004 as a channel for Anglican donors in the United States to contributed to Anglican churches in the Global South. Bishop Robert Duncan serves as president of the ARDF and an ex-officio board member.
