Archbishop Drexel Gomez to speak at Festival of Faith in Maryland
The Most Rev. Drexel Wellington Gomez will be the guest of honor and keynote speaker at a “Festival of Faith” on Saturday, July 28 sponsored by St. Luke’s Parish, a Network-affiliated Forward in Faith North America parish, in Bladensburg, Maryland. Archbishop Gomez is the Archbishop of the West Indies and the Bishop of Nassau and the Bahamas including the Turks and Caicos Islands. The Rt. Rev. Donald J. Parsons, former Dean of Nashotah House and retired Bishop of Quincy will also be speaking and leading worship services at the day-long conference.
“The presence of these two men of God will be a blessing to all those who attend the Festival of Faith for a time of spiritual reflection and renewal,” said the Rev. Mark W. Lewis, Rector of St. Luke’s Parish. “This time in our Church family is a difficult one. But God, in His word, has promised to be faithful to His children, Anglicans included.”
The theme of the Festival of Faith is “The Anglican Covenant – Upholding the Faith.” The program includes the Archbishop’s discussion on the Anglican Covenant and the future of the worldwide Anglican Communion.
Archbishop Gomez presently serves as chairman of the Covenant Design Group, appointed by the Archbishop of Canterbury on behalf of the Primates of the Anglican Communion. A draft text of the Covenant Design Group’s work has been distributed to the Primates who have been asked to request a response from their Provinces in time for the preparation of a revised draft which could receive initial consideration at the Lambeth Conference scheduled for July 16 through August 4, 2008 in Canterbury, England.
The one-day conference runs from 8:30 am to 5 pm with check-in beginning at 7:30 am. Registration for this event is $20.00 and includes refreshments and lunch.
