Lambeth Conference

During the 20th Century, Christianity's center of gravity shifted from Europe and the West to the so-called Global South, and this shift was obvious at the century's final meeting of the bishops of the Anglican Communion. Despite the erosion of faith in the West, the Conference overwhelmingly reaffirmed traditional Christian teaching on Scriptural authority with respect to sexuality: "This Conference, in view of the teaching of Scripture, upholds faithfulness in marriage between a man and a woman in lifelong union, and believes that abstinence is right for those who are not called to marriage" [Resolution I.10].
