Bishop John Guernsey

Bishop John A. M. Guernsey has served at All Saints' Church, Woodbridge (Dale City), VA, since 1981 and has been rector since 1988. Ordained a priest in 1979 and consecrated a bishop in 2007, John holds a Masters of Divinity degree from Episcopal Divinity School and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Yale University. John has also served as an adjunct professor of Pastoral Theology (Stewardship) at Virginia Theological Seminary.

John is the dean of the Mid-Atlantic Convocation of the Anglican Communion Network, a position he has held since 2004. He has served as the chair of SOMA-USA (Sharing of Ministries Abroad) since 1996, and on the board of the American Anglican Council from 1996-1999 and 2000-2003. John has also chaired the boards of Episcopal Renewal Ministries (1988-1993) and of Rock the World Youth Mission Alliance (1989-1998).

Canonically resident in the Anglican Province of Uganda since 2006, John had previously been heavily involved in the national structures of The Episcopal Church. He served as a deputy to six General Conventions for 15 years beginning in 1985. John was the chair of the General Convention Committee on Evangelism between 1998-2000 and the chair of the Standing Commission on Domestic Mission and Evangelism from 2000-2003.

John married the Rev. Margaret E. Phillips in 1978. The couple has two adult children.
