Network Welcomes the Rev. William Murdoch’s Election

The Anglican Communion Network welcomed news today that the Anglican Province of Kenya has elected the Rev. William Murdoch suffragan bishop of All Saints Cathedral Diocese in Nairobi. Bishop-elect Murdoch will join Bishop-elect Bill Atwood in supporting Kenyan clergy and congregations in the United States. As he takes on this new responsibility, Murdoch will continue to serve the Network as dean of the New England Convocation.

Over the last few weeks, Anglicans around the world have worked in concert to provide oversight and care to orthodox Anglicans who have left or have been forced out of the Episcopal Church, many of whom are connected to the Anglican Communion Network through its International Conference. These newly-elected bishops, as well as many others from multiple orthodox Anglican jurisdictions in North America, will be coming together in Pittsburgh, PA this September for the first-ever Common Cause Council of Bishops.

“I am grateful to the Anglican Province of Kenya for calling Fr. Bill to this new phase of ministry. As dean of the Network’s New England Network Convocation, Bill has done an incredibly fine job. He is a gifted priest, close friend and fellow worker as we rebuild a biblical, missionary and uniting Anglican presence in North America,” said Bishop Robert Duncan, moderator of the Anglican Communion Network.

The Rev. William Murdoch’s biography is available here.

The Anglican Province of Kenya’s press release follows:

FROM THE ANGLICAN CHURCH OF KENYA PROVINCIAL SYNOD

The Province now provides Episcopal oversight to several dozen congregations in the USA through a number of Kenyan Bishops. By a unanimous vote, the Provincial Synod of the Anglican Church of Kenya endorsed the selection of The Revd. Canon Bill Atwood as Suffragan Bishop of All Saints Cathedral Diocese (Nairobi) to serve the international interests of the ACK including taking responsibility for care for the congregations and clergy in the USA under Kenyan jurisdiction. The synod also unanimously approved the consecration of The Revd. Bill Murdoch as Suffragan Bishop of All Saints Cathedral Diocese to assist with providing that oversight and Episcopal care. Consecrations are scheduled for August 30th in Nairobi. They will collaborate with others in the Common Cause network, chaired by The Rt Revd Robert Duncan (Pittsburgh) to provide orthodox Episcopal care and oversight, strategically uniting a broad conservative coalition that shares historic Anglican faith and practice.
