Anglicans in Peru Helping Earthquake Victims

Printer Friendly

Responding to an 8.0 magnitude earthquake in Peru on August 15, the Anglican Relief and Development Fund (ARDF) is working directly with the Anglican Diocese of Peru to help them provide aid and pastoral care to survivors.

More than 60,000 people were affected by the earthquake. Near its epicenter, approximately 130 miles northwest of Lima, the town of Pisco saw 85 percent of its residents’ homes destroyed. The earthquake also killed at least 540 people and injured more than 2,000.

According to Canon Nancy Norton, director of the ARDF, The Diocese of Peru under the leadership of Bishop William Godfrey is providing aid and pastoral care to the victims on behalf of the Anglican Church. They have been feeding over 6,000 people daily to meet the needs of the earthquake victims. They desperately need financial resources to continue their aid work and to bring the hope of the Gospel to those in need of physical and spiritual healing.
